JK Tyre–Meco Motorsports Rotax race results
Date: 15 May 2014
Yash Aradhya, Ricky R Donison
and Nayan Chatterjee emerged as the toppers in the Micro Max, Junior Max and
Senior Max categories respectively after conclusion of two rounds of the JK
Tyre – Meco Motorsports Rotax Max Kart Open 2014 at the Kart Center – Lahari
Resorts recently.
After winning all five of his
races on Sunday, and nine out of ten during the weekend, Aradhya (Bangalore,
Meco Racing), starting second on the grid, said: “I am happy with the result
this weekend. This was good and I am looking forward to winning the National
Championship and also gunning for the top 5 position in the Asian
Championship.” With two races done in the Asian Championship, he is looking
forward to the third later this month in Sepang. He is currently fifth in the
points table.
Fourth on the grid, Donison
(Bangalore, BPC Racing) won the Junior Max category in style. He won the first
four races of the day but was beaten by Akash Gowda (Bangalore, Meco Racing) in
the fifth race. Nevertheless, it was a good day for Donison, who said: “We had
the pace in the first four races but they (Akash Gowda and Mira Erda) dominated
the last race. Akash got past me in the beginning and I could not get back into
the lead.
“I look forward to the National
Championship and am confident after winning this weekend,” he added.
Pole sitter Chatterjee (Mumbai,
Rayo Racing) won three races on Sunday, while Krishnaraj D Mahadik (Kolhapur,
Mohite’s Racing) won two on the day to be the topper in the second round. But,
over two rounds, Chatterjee topped the class, thanks mainly to his efforts on
Saturday. Chatterjee won the first, third and fifth races on Sunday. He was
generally doing well but a collision in the second race saw him fall back. He
recovered to finish fourth in that race. Mahadik got past Chatterjee in the
fourth race and won.
After topping the Senior Max
category, Chatterjee said: “It feels great and this is my second Kart Open
title. I was untouchable on Saturday but there was a lot of work to do today
(Sunday). But the kart was good and the team did a great job with it. I am keen
on getting back to racing in the National Championship.”
